1996 A1 Rockhopper FS

SpeccyExpat

Retro Newbie
I have inherited this 1996 A1 Rockhopper FS, and from what I can gather it has had several parts replaced along the way.

It now has a crack on the bottom bracket shell which I hope can be welded

I am also on the lookout for a set of original handlebars as I had to cut off the old bar ends as they had welded themselves to the bar and now its just a little too short.

Quadra 21

I have a threaded 1 1/8 Quadra 21 in VERY good shape in the garage collecting dust. What length steerer tube do you need? I'll check it tonight when I get home.

Sorry it has taken so long to reply, all work and no play!

Unfortunately they would have been a little too short, so I decided to go down the Manitou route after been given an old shabby pair of Manitou Comps. Spent 2 weeks cleaning and polishing, fitting new springs only to find the Steerer again is too short.......Aaaaaarrrrrrggghhh

So now I am on the look out for a longer Manitou crown.

Thanks again though.

New Forks

Got them for free from a bike store in Portland, they needed cleaning up and new elastomers ordering, I spent most of my vacation at the beach cleaning the things with brasso..... only to get home and find they dont fit! (short by 15mm)....... does anyone have a steerer that is over 6 1/2 in long, threaded, 1 1/8 dia??!!??

New Shocks and a test ride

So the Manitou Comps are fitted and I have replaced the elastomers which had basically melted with Mr Wings Springs (soft) and I am very happy.... I was worried that they would have the suspension qualities of a pogo stick, but so far so good.

Now to find a new set of original handlebars and bar ends, and find the original set of brakes, and to get the bottom bracket shell welded......... all in good time though!
