1995 Marin Team Titanium XTR

except the forks should be 10 or 15 quid, what's gone mad with people charging a fortune.
You could get the whole bike with the forks on for that sort of price.

Well...FC I agree entirely that 120 gbp is in excess of what they are worth, but 10-15 gbp is pushing it a bit far the other way. Decent steel forks for contemporary bikes are actually quite expensive - Surly (nothing that special) are 130-190 gbp, and that’s pretty standard...

Re:

If people want to get ripped off on a fork that pops up an bikes regularly, that's up to them, but you don't have to inflate prices just because you can.
It's why I'll not sell to anyone that's not 'mates' or 'mates rates', as I don't trust some nob will not put it on ebay and try get £150 and create an illusion of 'this must be the price' .
Bring back retro meet boot sales and swaps again.

Anyway I'll delete in a few days as a build thread isn't the thread to talk about it, but many people have got I to this a bit later and think this must be the price.

Modern forks are a different matter.

agreed - way over priced for those forks!

as has been said before

1. Saddle + post would lighten
2. narrower tyres
3. foam ritchey grips
4. spd over those flats
5. ditch the bar ends..... only partially joking

Re:

FC - indeed broadly agree with you, and liked the days of browsing at bike jumbles, finding things which I wanted and others didn't and vice versa. Everything's gone weird right now, and I can't find things new, let alone secondhand. I need a new jump frame (three withdrawn from sale...) and some 100mm 20mm axle forks (none anywhere, even new) it's baffling, frustrating and expensive.

And on here, I still don't understand the whole Klein thing. I had a Klein, 1992-4. It was pretty dire actually, compared with the steel bikes I had (Orange, Marin) - they had much better geometry, ride quality and climbing ability. Quite pleased to see the back of it...

I’d give my right arm to find a correct 1995 stem cap

Can’t seem to find one anywhere.

gave one away about a month ago sorry.... ill see if he is using it

Re:

That would be awesome. Thank you. Can’t find one anywhere. The 1993/94 ones are set at an angle, canted the 1995 ones are flat. 1996 were threadless so it narrows the field.

Please let me know

Matt

Re:

Some fab finishing touches with special thanks to Captaincowley:

Stem plug found, not original but looks fab. Super happy.

1995 bar ends added. The ones I had were 1997 with the logos and these have gone onto my 1997 IFT

Replacement Seatpost clamp as mine was a bit tatty.

Re:

What cap (stem) did you end up with that fitted, I can see the picture. Just a generic one.?

I'm going to have to go look at mine now, see what's in it.

Looks really nice.
