1995 Kona Kilauea with Hot 853 decals

Re:

I’m tending to agree with fattiman (and the original advert) with it being a 1995 Kilauea.

The ovalisation of the tubing, the cable stops and dropouts all appear to be correct, although after a quick search, the same seems to have been used for 1994, 1995 & 1996.

I can’t help with serial number though – anyone have a 1995 to shed some light?

Totally agree with al-onestare on the paint job –and to think this was probably the beautiful Pearl White paint of the 1995.

96 didn't have the ovalisation

Good man - cheers. The Dropouts make it 1994 or 1995 then as the 1993 were different with the open triangle design.

Nearly there with identifying it for Newbie faribaldy - I'm generally quite poor at this sort of thing, but I always try to have a go at figuring out these painted Kona frames.

Re:

Had a bash at getting the paint off, I found a bit of the older metallic pink paint the seller mentioned, more purple I'd say.
Weight without the paint was 4lb 6.9oz and without is 4lb 5.9oz. Was getting worried for a while then realised that the weight in the Kona catalogues is 4.5lb, and not 4lb 5oz. Here's a few more pics... what colour shall I paint it... pink?

Not spent too long, about 3-4 hours. Used Nitromors and then wire wool and white spirit.
Did some models have the option of a custom paint job perhaps?

not kilaueas. Silver in 94 and white in 95
94 definitely had that style of dog collar, 96 was different but I've never owned a 95

I'm thinking about getting this frame back in use asap now. Seems it could be either bronze, silver or white looking at the catalogue archive, I'd prefer white.
Was the pearl white really special or just a nice glossy white?
If the latter I might powdercoat it, or would I be better off doing a spray can job till I can save up for a proper pearl paint job?
What about them serial numbers, are they the last thing to look for in identifying it for sure?
