1995 DBR Vertex WCF project

Greetings from Australia.

Having ridden and raced MTB all through the 90s I love the bikes and parts that came from that era - lots of memories.

I bought this frame with a few original parts a couple of years ago but the project never got off the ground until mid last year.

It came with the original Manitou Comp forks but they were in need of a lot of TLC - upgraded to some near new 4's. All the other parts ended up going to the parts bin.

After a lot of time stripping, sanding, painting and polishing - it's finally taking shape. Decided to go with a black mica finish. I reproduced the frame decals but still need to get the top tube logo cut.

Sourcing parts is taking some time but eventually it will all come together.

I recently picked up a Syncros EA70 handlebar, NOS Answer logo grips and a Machine Tech rear hub.

One of my 2 fave DBRs. I can see the carbon weave through the paint which looks cool but if it was me I'd preferred the contrasting steel and carbon tubes of the original paintjob. Still an ace looking bike though. Did you polish that fork crown?

Yep, the fork got a polish - along with the cranks which were powder coated red and the Gen 1 Ringle QR which was black.

Cable guides also got stripped and spent some time on the buffing wheel

Argh! Stop making want to polish stuff!

Seriously though, this is fantastic.

On those first couple pics I thought maybe you were going to polish the "lugs" on the frame and leave the carbon, but that paint looks great.

I'll have to get a shot in the sunlight - really shows the depth of the mica and carbon weave.

Spent many hours on the polishing wheel. Most parts are prepped with vaarious grades of steel wool but the manitou forks polished up with no extra ttention needed - they were in perfect condition

When Paul did their first limited edition colour run I managed to pick up a right hand lever from Aspire Velotech. I waited for them to do the next run for the left lever but they were only selling them from their online store - and wanted $40US just for postage. Stuck with one lever for now.
