1995 Coors Duel Descender, Malvern Hills !

Did anyone here compete in this event !!!

I did it on my fully ridged Kona, got beat by a guy on an Amplifier, after I lost it on the second corner & went under the tape into a few spectators.

I was just wondering if anybody had any photos! (longshot, yes) or memories to share :)

It was, alas the last days racing at Malvern Hills, we woke in the morning, our tent surrounded by police tape, as a lad (I remember his name, Alex Pinkleton RIP) was stabbed.

Not forgetting to huge bottle riot the night before, and a certain somebody climbing the huge marquee pole and waving his nob at everyone. Riot !

No Pictures, but I was there I remember it being hotter than Satan's armpit, thought it was piss poorly organised.

When we got there the first night, a guy with no protection whatsoever tried his luck on the end of the downhill course where the hump was next to the road, he totally fecked up and pancaked landed with a sickening thud and just lay there gurgling and coughing up blood, he had punctured his lung and broke several bones. There seemed to be no marshals or officials to stop any of this, but medical aid did arrive thankfully quite quickly.

My main memory of the Saturday was trying not to melt in the heat, (I live on the coast and like a breeze  ) Also seeing the bravest man I had ever seen, he did the descent on a Cannondale as I remember, he came down and hit the same hump by the road, but he looked like he had nailed it, but just as he landed his knees buckled and two soft fleshy items interacted with his toptube, to a mass inhalation of breath by every male in he crowd. We thought that was it but this superman just gripped the toptube with his knees and freewheeled over the line, awesome :!: :!:

The Sunday you have already covered :(

I have some photos of that event but may take some digging out.

That weekend was really an end of era as they were never the same after that.Even the Mayhem events there lacked the atmosphere still, but hey its what you make of it.

I have some of Mr Peat on his rigid Kona,Hemming and Warner also.

I will have a look and get them up 8)

I was there.

Unfortunately the incident on the Sat night which ultimately cancelled the event had a big impact on my brother (PeterPoddy on here) who didn't ride again for a long time.

I don't remember much from the Saturday as it was a while ago I'm afraid, and I was too poor to afford a camera!! I'm not sure if my brother has any pics but I'll ask.

If anyone remembers we went there in an orange and white Bay VW camper and we had high powered water guns which we soaked everyone with. :-)

Great weather though... :-)

I did the dual eliminator on my rigid Kona. :-)

somewhere in the loft is the vhs video of that year! at the time of the riot we were sitting around the campfire, beer in hand listening to Kylie's greatest hits set on random blareing out the boot of the car! the game was to guess the next track, get it wrong and you necked the bottle! we were joined by two female pro riders (cant remember who as I was very drunk) who were walking through our camp to the party tent, they made a few comments about Kylie and our taste in music  twenty minutes later they were sat by the fire, bottle in hand playing along :D

Also in the loft is a picture of Jason McRoy and his then girlfriend Sophie Brookes as she was bent over leaning into the boot of a car, she was wearing a set of stars and stripes shorts and as my mate said at the time 'thats one flag I would stand up for!' the best bit about the picture is that Jason caught me taking it! and promtly smiled and laughed as I took it :)

Haha, great stories guys :D

Yes, it was a great weekend, crap ending though. Although, I suspet the end was nigh anyway, the last few years, the seemed to be an influx of locals turning up to cause mayhem, wasn't just us bikers.

I may have the dual slalom and the evenings duel descender mixed a little bit 8)

The last year I went, there were various people rolling down and off the roof of the marque, some general mayhem and Titley got kicked off the site IIRC. He re-appeared a few hours later after finding a way back in.... Not sure if that was the last event, or if that sort of stuff happened every year?!

That doesn't sound like him at all

We all nearly got chucked out the year or two before as we took away the pallet's from's the trial's course and had a 7 foot high bonfire.

We had 4x4 jeep's coming from all direction's
