1994 P7 build thread

Those XT cantis are BR-M737, I think. So the LX might be BR-M565. But it should be written somewhere...

One more tip: Throw away those Shimano m55/t brakepads. They are real rim-killers! And they don't work well. And they are ugly

I would recommend you buy some nice pair of black or gray cool stops.

I couldn't see any numbers on them.

As for the brake pads, I was probably going to replace them anyway.

They've gone rock hard...

Latest.

Not much to report other than I've started doing the frame piece by piece when I get a spare hour or so.

Drive side chain stay.

Front br

Rears before cleaning. Now these always bugged me. Not because they're LX and not XT, but because they're black.

To me, the shape looks identical. Could I rub down the paint and polish them to match the fronts?

If I'm not mistaken the black is anodising so you should be able to remove it by soaking the calliper in drain cleaner ..(caustic soda)
Then polishing with wet n dry etc. it's quite a satisfying process ..lol

So I went for it...

Took a black LX Canti and rubbed it back to produce one which looks more like the XT one. Took waaaaaaaaaaaaay longer than I thought it would though as getting into all the little hollows took forever.

Just need to do the other side now...

yeah, thats why i suggested soaking it in caustic soda... before sanding

I've seen other people do this too.

Would nitromors work as well?

If not, where the hell do you get caustic soda from?

Modern nitromores is garbage mate, it's new and improved formula means it's grest for the environment but doesn't do s very good job at stripping paint ftom metal ! Regardless, like I said I'm pretty sure those callipers are anodised and even old school nitromores wouldn't touch anodising.

Caustic soda will remove it but they'll need completely stripping ... Not sure what effect caustic would have on any brass bushings !?

I bought my caustic from a pound shop for ... 89p.

I can't decide if they're anodised or not. I'd have said powder coated if I had to guess as the surface has that slight pliability to it.
