1994 Manitou DH, Beneke Replica

Re:

I would guess it was an Atac stem. Seeing the pic before your text my first impression was an Answer Atac.
Your getting a lot of reflection on the underside of the stem distorting "Atac" and the poor quality picture as well as what is most likely remnants of decals doesn't help either.

OK thanks, but a quill and not an ahead set one?

The 3 or 4 I have are quill stems, im not sure the ahead version arrived until the mid/late 90's

Im going to go with a high rise atac,
There is a chance the sticker might say something else I guess, could be one of them clothing stickers.

Re: 1994 Manitou DH

Well the only reason is that the EFC forks that came with DH frame are threadless, or at least mine are. But his wasn't a threadless atac (not sure they were even available in '94) as there are no bolts at the rear. Had spent ages assuming it was threadless and trying to find a matching stem, didn't really occur to me it could be quill until yesterday.

Just seen that they did do threaded EFC's so might be able to find a replacement crown and steerer, swapping to 1⅛" makes sense so the head tube can be beefed up a bit.

Received a nice reply from Will Richie at WTB saying that they should have the original photos somewhere and will have a look for them. He even said if I was local I'd could drop in and have a dig through their stuff too, shame I'm not. Nice man!

Re: 1994 Manitou DH

Bought a few pieces of stabilised mammoth ivory which arrived today. Thought I'd do one personal touch somewhere and was going to be for a headset cap, have enough for a few screw ups too. But with it turning out to be a quill stem I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it now. Never had any before, expected it to be a bit like a hard wood to work with but feels more like a plastic which may partly be down to the stabilisation that uses resin. Also have copper, bronze and silver sheet here so I'll think of something.

Re:

Interested to see what you come up with.
Something along the lines of Missy Giove and her pet piranha :-D
