I and RTM have a lot of experience in restoring nickel-plated frames - GT85 and Spontex washing balls - stainless balls of swarf. Do NOT use wire wool. Wire wool just deposits loads of tiny bits of poor grade steel into the rust pits and it all starts rusting really quickly. Spontex is stainless steel, much harder and removes the rust, leaves the nickel, and the GT85 puts silicon in the rust pits, slowly the oxidation hugely.

There you go...cheap. Spontex and GT85.

I’ve done a few patches with spontex, haven’t picked up gt85 yet, meant to get some yesterday when I got wheel bearing grease - I knew there was something else! :facepalm:

The shim arrived for USE ti post so it now looks more like a bike!

Picked up the GT85 yesterday so will have a go with the spontex at some point, although I think I’ll end up having a crack at the brushed finish, not sure how a mirror finish would look, any of you guys done mirror polish or attempted the brushed/satin finish??

Not sure I got the right shim, I thought this took a 26.4 seatpost, is that right?

I think it was a 26.6mm seatpost it took.

I read it was 26.4, just found another saying 27.0!
Just ordered some calipers!
Sad thing is I sold a 27.0 a few weeks ago :facepalm:

Mine is 26.8. But I know another that was 27.0.

Haha so somewhere between 26.4 a 27.0! Verniers arrive tomorrow so hope to confirm for sure then.

Yeah. I think i had a 26.6 26.8 and a 27.0 shim and 26.8 was the best fit

I own a 1993 Marin Bear Valley SE and a Team Issue from the same year, so can confirm that both take a 26.4 setpost, but you might be able to fit a 26.6 to them.
