Retro Newbie
Hi, I have had my Kona Kilauea from new since 1993 and the time has come to sell it...a classic vintage Tange Prestige Concept steel hardtail - fully up and running.
There are no original parts due to a constant evolution of components over the years - but it is set up quite well.
Rough run down is
XT 8sp drivetrain with XTR titanium cassette
Hope front disc and rear XT V-Brakes
Hope front and rear Ti-Glide Hubs
Hope Ti BB
Middleburn RS3 Cranks w/
Middleburn 48 and Pace Chainrings
Rock Shox Judy TT (05)
Crank Bros Egg Beaters
Easton EA-70 Monkey Bars and EA-50 Stem
I am seriously considering giving the frame a respray in its original colours, cleaning everyting with a fine tooth comb and rebuilding so its as shiny as possible.
I have had quotes around £130 for the work, but how much is the frame worth and how much value would it put on the complete bike when i come to sell....Basically is it worth it!???
Or should i restore the frame and sell that separately?
Or just sell it now as is and let somone else do the work!? with all its "life scars"
Any good ideas out there for decals and spray craftsmen would be helpful.
All your thoughts are appreciated, anyone interested in the machine?
It has a lot of sentimental value for me, having taken me everywhere in the UK in the last 17 years - I want to set it up as nice as i can and give it to a good home. A classic machine, But is it worth it...
