Spurred on by re-reading an old mbuk and Steve worland testing one and the look of the bike sticking deep within I had to have one. On that there farcebook a bargain project was found and I was lucky enough for a local to collect it and bring it to the recent raleigh meet at Clipstone. Awesome stuff, even when the gent messaged and said I hope you don't mind a project haha

Plan now on to completely strip it, clean it as much as and see what's what. Will see if the mag 30s hold air and either fill restoration or patina rebuild. Apparently its a onenowner from new and is mostly original, even down to the cables bar the front gear cable.

Bloody love it and so much for the clearout, but another one ticked of the owned list ;) 20230521_195916.webp

Check in .. that and the Quantum were dream tickets for me too. Shame they never appear on the larger sizes so well done bagging one!

Time for a scrub a dub

Mmmmmm you win some, you lose some. Wheels came in really well, broken spoke replaced and ready for a retension and oe chengshin tyres to be fitted.....however

The forks, hold air, cleaned and inspected and found the crown has corroded to the point of cracking when the bolts were checked to be free. Bugger :( so now j need to find another fork or crown with 185mm min threaded steerer.

Is the serial tag still on the right leg under the nice boots?
I wonder if they'll still warrent the recall they put out on the crown for cracking.
Does the brace still come of easily, they could crack to, hence why they changed the recessed bolt, also around the threads on the legs.

Small update time. Frames clean and I'd love to repaint it but the white has a pearl pinky tint which I'll never replicate. Will give the rust latches another go over with g3 and polish before it's built but happy overall, decals cleaned up okay and the nds dynatech kinda adds to the patina and history.

Mechs and chainsaw before, lots of grease and muck cleaned off. Not minty mint but clean enough ready for a quick wire wool and back to duties

And thats it for now, finding a new steerer/crown may be a long-term thing so gonna sort a threaded steerer for some pace rc35s. Found a turbo saddle, some foam grips and cleaned some powergrips for that period look.
