1992 Marin Team Marin

Well, motivated by my ongoing '02 RM Blizzard build, i decided to bring my Marin downstairs and pre assemble it prior to stripping, greasing and replacing one or two rusty bolts.
I always liked the '92 Team Marin as it came with the Tange Ultrastrong downtube, the ribbed one, and also the purple and green really stand out, in person especially.
When i first got the Marin it was a bit dirty and missing a few parts. I have now sourced most parts it needed, and after straightening the rear dropout and mech hanger, it all works well and is looking a bit better
Most parts are original except the seat and post, which are hard to come by but managed to find newer Marin Lite versions. Even has the original Ti bars. The bike is on Ritchey tyres, through choice as i prefer the tan walls.
Anyway, some pictures for now, typically cold wet and windy out, so had to take them in the warm of indoors

These zolatone and fluorescent Marins really seduced me in the early 90s. Still stunning today! Lovely example, great bike!

To be fair, i think lack of use and not abuse, by previous owners, and that it wasnt left outside to rust, really helped. As mentioned, just a few rusty nuts and bolts, mostly inside the heads, and a bit of tarnishing on the cranks and hubs is the only real negatives. The paint is really good condition and really glows in the right light
The rims and hubs are really good condition too. The only thing i really would like for the bike now is an original '92 Lite saddle, if anyone has one they would like to sell as long as its not silly money like a lot of them seem to fetch nowadays :roll:

The bike, as you can see, is a 19" which fits me ok apart from the loooong top tube, which is around 23" from memory, and nowadays, even though i am still youngish at heart is just a little too stretched out for my poor bones for long rides :facepalm:

Hopefully i can get some better shots when/if the weather gets better, even though its hard to capture the glow on camera

I know what you mean about the stretched out riding position.. after long rides on mine it feels like i've been hit in the lower back with a cricket bat!! I have since fitted a USE seatpost which sort of shortens the toptube as there is no layback and has made it much more comfortable.

Ah, good idea, i have a couple of USE posts lying around somewhere i shall give it a try, it should at least make it a bit more bearable
