Went for my first long ride on it over the weekend, and I really like the ride—pretty forgiving, and responsive in technical sections.

That´s how they ride. Not race bikes... but highly tuned trail bikes. Short wheelbases, low bb, quick but also stable when you need it.

Btw.. an all black build would looke awesome there. Black parts from head to toe leaving the colour fade to speak. All deore xt m730 w/ a cook bros crank.
 
Have gradually moved this to the “all black” scheme Prodigal Son suggested and I’m pleased with the results—it does set off the paint well, and it seems to suit the age of the frame. I also really like the simplicity of the thumbies—whole bike is really working harmoniously at the moment (which I don’t take for granted!).
