Wheels were next. Sadly, I didnt take any pics of the process. A combination of circumstances happened here. I bought a set of wheels on Gumtree but they weren't exactly what I was looking for. My lad needed a new bike as well as hes growing like a weed! At 11, hes shoulder height on me and I'm 6'2l. I found a reasonable looking Kona Hahanna advertised so went to have a look. Turns out it was a police disposal facility specifically focusing on bikes! I ended up buying the Kona and a Specialised Rockhopper for the missus and some Bontrager rims laced to some ok looking hubs. I had to restrain myself from buying a lot more! Suffice to say I may well be going back there!!

A slight diversion making sure the 2 new bikes were in decent nick (pun not intended!) And a service on each before I turned my attention to the wheels. The hubs were in good condition but I serviced them with new grease anyway. They look like Shimano, are pretty light and the wheels were almost spot on true!

Bought some slime inner tubes and 1.9 Schwalbe Black Jack tyres, fitted them and robert is your mothers brother!

A couple of final touches were a chain guide for the chainring just in case, plenty of helicopter tape protecting impact areas and a chainstay protector (with "built not bought" in silver - no pic of this as I only fitted it a few days ago as the helicopter tape wouldn't fit the chainstay bends properly)

So there we go! My first full build completed. And it's being used every day - I ride 5 miles before work so another addition has been some lights as it's now a tad dark at 6am...

Re:

For peoples info in case anyone thinks I dont use it as intended, this was after my morning ride a couple of days ago. Its definitely being used!!

A few adjustments have been made to be a touch more comfortable and a slightly shorter stem is required as, since I last rode it prior to the rebuild, I had a bad snowboarding accident that's left me with permanent back damage so the stretched out position this era Kona's have combined with the 13cm Tioga stem was not happening. The eXotic 7cm is still a touch too long so a 4.5cm is on the way.

Overall I'm really happy with the way it came together. I've learnt some things, relearnt others and feel a great sense of satisfaction when I ride it. I will build another once we move house.
