Thanks mate. Happy enough I've dropped on this one as I'd been thinking about a 90/91 Marin in the new year. The rims are sweet but too much money for this bike as it'll be restored on a budget. It'll be a test bike for my skills as at the price I paid if I ruin it I'll not have lost much

a schoolfriend and i briefly owned marins for a month or two BITD, he had a 91 eldridge grade in flouro and zolotone and i had a 'pauper spec' and slightly older bear valley in black. both were 19" and both rode nearly the same, the EG having a more solid feel due to the components.
In those short months one thing was for sure, that zolotone paint was bullet proof! i scratched buggery out of my chainstay, he couldnt mark his!
so if i can give you any advice for your resto, stop using the wire brush and get yourself a tin of cellulose thinners and one of those green washing up scourers. it will make light work of that peeling topcoat and wont touch the zolotone 'toilet cubicle paint' underneath. :D y'never know, you may even get away without painting the frame??

I had one of those in 17.5 as my first "proper" mountain bike back in 1992.
Ace bike, loved it.
Sold it on to a mate who had it robbed from his garage shortly after. Probably at the bottom of a canal somewhere now.....bet the zolatone paint is still pristine though :)
