1991 Kestrel CS-X Build - lots of weight weenies - Done pg 5

Re:

The crank debate was a tricky one.

Top lines are the lightest alone, but add the rings, wider BB, and bolts needed and they become heavier than the raceface. I only wanted to go 2 x 7 gearing as well to save weight and improve trail performance. There were no good MD-friendly ring options for the toplines to make that work.

I had resolved that I'd go raceface ... than these appeared locally and cheap :D. A couple hours of cleaning and polishing and they look awesome. Add in the QBP rings and the added bonus that I can now use my 119mm McMahon Ti BB and this looses nearly 120 over the raceface and 200g++ over the toplines.

First generation TNT Compact crank arms - 398g

Getting closer. There are the lightest wheels and 2nd lightest tires I have.

Panaracer Smoke and Darts are 580g each if anyone is curious. Ritchey K force Racing 1.9s are 540g.

NOS Suntour XCPro Rear Derailleur MD - 236g (only a m900 is lighter at 228g)

Thanks! Some changes coming in stem department :)

I got them locally for $60cdn. They were a bit tatty but polished up nicely.

I really like them. I had a blue pair or two a while back with the 1 peice drive. These are way nicer. Really look the part against the black.

Brakes are back and redone. The Avids were silver. I had them reanodized gun metal like the grey in the Kestrel logo. All Ti hardware. Light!!

The last major part arrived.

130mm Litespeed Tuf-Nek titanium stem. 236g, which seemed heavy until a weighted the wedge and bolts. A swap of the Ti kit from the Syncros stem and it was 185g ... no hanger needed either.

I need to trim the fork steerer now that I have the fit sorted and cable it.

She's a hair over 18lbs as pictured (no chain, pedals, or cables). I think I'll make the goal weight of sub 22 lbs easily.

It's been waiting for a new rear wheel. Hopefully the spokes came in ... She's been there a bit too long!
