Some bikes just come to you out of the blue.

When we got off the train after a short weekend trip last spring and I was pushing my way through the crowd, Mrs KayOs pointed out a sign advertising a bicycle auction held by the German railway company's lost property office.

She said there was bound to be something there for me and asked if I would like to take a look.

What a question!

A week later, on a Saturday morning, I was able to browse through several hundred bicycles on the station forecourt. I quickly spotted two bikes that caught my eye, and now it was time to wait for the auction.

One of the bikes I had my eye on was this Kuwahara Cougar. Until then, I had only seen Kuwaharas in pictures and had always been impressed by the string and splatter paint jobs.

The starting bid for the Cougar was €5, and at €20, I was the only one left raising my hand.

So that's how, on the advice of Mrs KayOs, I took home a 34-year-old Cougar 😆

The poor thing looked rather sad.

Fortunately, the seat post wasn't stuck and everything else was in excellent condition.
Everything was a bit dusty and dirty, but nothing was broken or badly worn. Even the Kuwahara logo on the saddle is still there. Wow!

Here, too, I took everything apart first, as you never know where the bike has been standing for so long and where water might have got in.
This one has obviously been standing in the shade and dry under the station canopy for the last few years. Even the plastic parts are not brittle.

Now business as usual
