1990 Explosif with Track Two

with a pair of Track two forks that by the looks of it, have had its fair amount of failures, judging by the pics, i wonder how many warranty replacements that bike has seen.....

The original crown of the 1990 Track Two was spatter painted along with the blades, so this particular one has clearly had a new crown. However this is the first 1990 Track Two I have seen with a replacement crown. Almost all 1990 Explosifs retain their original Track Two, with the original spattered crown, which suggests that they were reliable.

However I have only ever seen one 1991 Track 2, even though they were supposed to be fitted to all Explosifs, Hots and Hei Heis. I assume these were the ones that were recalled, and the Track Two design was abandoned at that time.

Im aware of several sets that had issues, all of which were recalled.

Personnally i was given 2 seperate crowns (both Painted) for replacements, then a set of legs, (also painted) this was shortly after getting the bike, due to the fork legs moving upward into the crown. (no welded stops like a tange switchblade fork.) When the issue started to become an epidemic (other riders around me having the same issue), SL started dishing out replacement project two forks. I wasnt having that, i considered this to be a lesser fork at the time, and was given a further replacement set, with a polished crown and gold/ti coloured legs, these were a loan set, untill the porblems were resolved completely, and then i did manage to get a replacement set in the original splatter finish.

but this was only my experience at the time, my troubles with the forks started in 90.

I only assumed the guy selling the bike, had ad issues, due to the polished crown that he says hes polished, (which to be fair he may well have done), but then i saw the tops of the legs, rusty with no paint on them, and certainly higher than they ought to be imho.

top pic, the loan set of forks.

second pic, the sellers fork.

3rd pic, how they should look.

4th pic, joe murray riding with project twos, ( for weight differences apparently)

That is a 1991 Track Two, that should have been replaced for you.

Ironically, the bike sold for £372.50 + £15.00 in the end, which is the highest price I've seen for a 1990 Explosif. Normally I would expect £250-300 for a good one.
