1989 Saracen Limited Edition Mountain Bike

Wozza007

Retro Newbie
I have one of these bikes in working condition that I bought brand new and just working out what to do with it. Are these bikes worth any money ? A friend wants an old station bike and has asked to use it, but don't know what to say.

Can you upload some photos?
Sorry I didn't have it stored here so it took me a day or two to get the photos. Ignore the un-retro attachments like mudguard and bike rack 🤣

The special editions were usually previous year frames built up to get rid of. Looking at this it's a 1989 Traverse frame sold in 1990 with new paint and decals. Front forks are bent so that's a problem and they don't usually sell for much so probably worth £50.

Thanks Brocklander, you may well be right about the model as I have the original brochure and price list somewhere in the house. It may well be a 1990 traverse Limited edition, that rings a bell. As I paid around £599 and all the good working high spec components on it made me think it would be worth a bit more. The cables run through the frame and it has some other nice hand made features.

Yeah, the 89's were nice frames and well built but unfortunately don't sell for much these days, especially with damaged forks. If you split it for parts you'd probably get nearer £100 as the black crankset would be sought after but after that it's all kit that can be bought easily and cheaply. I'm about to sell a M550 LX groups and don't expect to get much for it as everyone wants DX/XT/XTR.
