Valuation advice – 1989 Muddy Fox Courier Comp + extras

Hi all – I’d really appreciate a bit of help valuing my dad’s old 1989 Muddy Fox Courier Comp. It’s been lovingly looked after and upgraded over the years with some significant retro parts. Spec includes:

  • Pace suspension forks
  • Mavic 213 rims on XT hubs
  • Kona Velocity stem
  • Deore thumbshifters
  • XT cantis and levers
  • Spare Mavic 217 on XT hubs
  • Original forks and stem included
Also included is a bonus GT Outpost frame built up from the spares box as a singlespeed for use on a turbo trainer – this one has a Syncros Cattleprod stem.

Do you reckon £350 sounds fair for the lot? I'm a bit out of the retrobike scene so not sure on how much stuff is worth. I want my mum to get a reasonable amount for it. Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

The market is flat ATM. I would take lots of good photos and a detailed description and put it on eBay at that price with an option for offers, but set that quite high and you'll gauge the level of interest and amount of (cheeky) offers that people are willing to pay. Not sure you'll get £350 for it, but you never know. Selling it separately will always make more money, but it's hassle and takes longer...

Think that’s a really nice bike, if those upgrades were done in period then your dad really liked it!

I think you may get closer to that if you split it, maybe putting the original forks and stem back on to sell as a frameset.

If I’m reading it right then including the Outpost there’s 2 frame sets, 3 sets of wheels, Pace forks plus drivetrain and finishing kit on both this and the Outpost. It’s hassle and would mean undoing your dad’s work on this but most of the value is going to be in those parts on their own. I do think someone would pay maybe £75 to £100 posted for the frame/forks/stem for the Fox if you wait a while? Crazy but put both while bikes together on eBay and suddenly the value seems to be less.
