1988 Saracen Trekker

88Trekker_01.jpg

In an attempt to catch up on several long overdue build threads I've been searching through folders, pumping up tyres and charging up the camera to document a few more bikes from my collection.

This one is a Saracen Trekker from 1988. I can't remember who I purchased this one from but it was some time in mid to late 2018. So thirty years since it first appeared in the Saracen range for that year.

I think it's all original apart from the BB and grips so I haven't really done much to it other than fit a set of Duro amberwall tyres, and wipe it with an oily rag. There are a few scratches here and there, the decals are a bit tatty, but I like the patina on this one and I'll leave it in it's survivor state.

A huge bonus for me is the inclusion of the original colour contrasted yellow Saracen bottle cage. It's those sorts of details that I really like.

Pretty good price considering it has two XT U-brakes.

Bad grammar on the advert but a really nice bike there. I was just getting into it and had taken delivery of my way too large Dawes around that time.

A school friend has one of these from new and I had to <bleugh> 'upgrade' it to 8spd about 19 years ago.

Despite my best efforts it remains that way but it is in good condition.

Re:

Looks great. I have a 1988 Saracen Limited next in the queue for a rebuild. Where did you find those tyres?

Lovely.

My second MTB, and I loved it.

Great to hear from you Gus.

Was that the model that Nick Craine used to go up those mountains on?
The Crane brother's used Saracen Conquests.

Can't remember exactly but they were on eBay. They are just cheap steel bead tyres. Branded and Duro but made by Cheng Shin.

I found a snap of me and my '88 Trekker from 1988 the other day. Ahem, on reflection the bike was nicer than my sunglasses.

Here’s my 1988 Trekker, in Langdale about 1989-90...awesome bike, still have it in parts
