I bought Spanky22b's 1988 Peugeot Montana + some parts from him a few weeks ago, I was on the lookout for a 130 rear spacing bike to make use of some Mavic wheels that I bought here, this was ideal, it is only to be used as a multipurpose/hack so comfort over speed was the order of the day.
531 main frame & forks. 6 speed XT except for SG round rings, NOS Dia Compe SS5 levers and the wheels are Mavic 501 hubs on Mavic 261CD rims with DB spokes. Added a Cog Hog & Tacx jockeys (they required extra spacing out) The blue is far lighter than the photos make out, more sky blue than Royal blue, it has a metallic sine in bright sunshine, looks very pleasing.
The handlebar I used was a 620mm with backsweep at the edges but the fork rake is sooo slack that it made the handling hilarious, the bike would seem to slowly migrate left or right! - I can see why things subsequently sharpened up for racing (or cornering as it is known!). Currently I have a 560mm 5 degree flat bar which is better but perhaps more of a backsweep will sharpen it up more. I also fitted some Gilles Berthoud stainless mudguards I had spare a this will be used through the winter. Made in France with extra 'Frenchness' in the form of the wheels, levers & mudguards but I could quite get it ready for the BOTM. I like the 6 speed thumbies, much more a solid click/clunk than the 7 speed, again I suppose they had to lighten up the action for race bikes.
