1981Dan Shotton 21 ½ ” Reynolds 531 db. £150, collect only (from Cardiff)

Apart from the frame, not really retro. Although currently set up as a single speed, it has a rear gear hanger (126mm spacing) . The frame was resprayed by Argos a few years ago and the paintwork although showing signs of use isn’t at all bad. The components are all of good quality and in excellent condition.

Frame – Frame No. DAN 56.9.81 -55cm c-t seat tube, 55cm top tube. Originally designed for Audax or light touring, 531db with lugs for mudguards and rack + bosses for cantilevers. 126mm rear dropouts. Small stud on downtube to allow for band on gear levers
Seat pin, stem and bars
– Nitto
Saddle - Fizik
Brakes – Shimano CX70 cantilevers (the supplied parts to allow fitting on different wheels are included)
Wheels – Mavic Open Pro (silver) 36 spokes, on Miche track hubs (flip flop rear for fixed or single speed) currently fitted Shimano 18t single freewheel.
Chainset – Sugino single, 48t.
Chain 1/8” stainless steel.
Pedals – MKS Sylvan with toeclips and straps


Dan was a student at the Bristol college of Art and Design in the late 1970s, and a keen cyclist and member of Bristol Road Club. He later learned frame building at Argos Racing Cycles under Arthur Needham and subsequently set up as an independent frame builder in Bristol.
