I have an Alan cross frame and the front fork flex is very alarming, legend has it , that if you put the front brake on hard enough, the front wheel kisses the down tube :o . Anyway I had enough of it and fitted a pair of trusty 531 forks.

Nowt new under the sun. Earlier this season after a CX race at Herne Hill I heard one rider describe the front forks on his brand-new Specialized cross bike as being - and I quote - "made of jam" such was the amount of flex under braking.

IIn terms of Campagnolo Montreal rims, they were later - period would be a pair of Mavic red-label rims like GP4s, Campagnolo Victory or Ambrosio Sythesis.
i dont think he meant campag montreals, I seem to remember another make of maontreal of that period ... milremo possibly, I remember them in the RonKit catalogue

Yep that the sort of look for rims I had in mind - Ambrosio Montreal it may be laced to some campag record hubs. Might end up with buying new hubs though.

I will update when I actually buy something for this which will be a while as I have no spare cash. The plan is to have to bike ready for summer next year.

To take your mind off the forks why not try and find some Super Champ Medale D'Or rims........ I used to ride them in TT's.

It will be a toss up which collapses first LOL

Pigman,

Might those have been 'Ambrosio' Montreals? I'm still running a pair of the dark 'Medaille d'Or' versions:

Plus, I see there was also a Montreal 'Crono' number (at 315 grams 8) ):

You have go me wondering now. I will have a look. They are hanging up in the garage. Getting to them will not be easy. I will have to fight my way past various bikes, frames and Lotus 7 replicas.
