1979 Bob Jackson

You're not really going to know until you clean those scabs up and shine a light in there from the BB. The paint seems poor all over and the parts aren't amazing. Its a gamble but to my highly untrained glass half full eye thats seen worse....I would take a punt if this is your thing and you're after a small frame.

Thanks Londonclassic.

I hesitated, then just went to see it, nice and local to me. Most of the large dark marks are rust converter as opposed to rust, and it looks solid to my eye. Only point of concern is a rattling from the stays when shaking them. Seatpost and stem came out nice and easy, pedals were a bit of a different story but they’re off now. The rear wheel axle is somehow bent and has been partially disassembled, then he seemed to stop there. Didn’t spot that until I got home, I’ve got a plan to use different wheels for now, then pop a donor axle in there and rebuild the hub.

It was a nice story (if it can be believed), the current seller said he had a girlfriend’s relative who worked somehow with Bob, and who managed to wrangle this frame for him at a trade price. Bob was apparently riding this frame around at the time, agreed to sell it as they were a similar height, sprayed it and sold it to him for £267 trade price. The guy said his eyes popped out, he hadn’t expected that much but didn’t want to lose face in front of this girl he was seeing, so just paid it.

I was a bit incredulous at this story, but the frame fit me and wasn’t much, so we made a deal and into my car boot it went. The lug shapes seem to match nicely with other Bob Jackson frames I’ve seen, not sure if his story was genuine or half-exaggerated, but it’s still a frame that I’ll enjoy riding I hope! Cheers
