Joining this thread very late, but I've just completed the rebuild of a 1954 Mercian, frame number 23254, model unknown. One small correction to an earlier comment: the oval stamp on the bottom bracket shell isn't RGP, it's RGF. Stands for Raccord Gargette Freres, a French maker of bottom bracket shells which were popular with lightweight specialists. Both my Johnny Berry frames have RGF bottom bracket shells. Thanks Ned.
The stem's a GB 531 - the bars and brake are also GB. Most of the running gear is 1970s Campag Record, pedals are TA, and the saddle's a repro B17 Swallow made by the chap who used to do repairs for Brooks.
The gear's 44:15 - a bit higher than I normally ride.
I was hoping to treat her to a trip home to Derby for a proper refurb for her 50th, but life got in the way. I'd also planned to collect some more period-correct (and British) parts for the rebuild, but with the prices of nice 1950s gear these day, that may have to wait for the lottery win.
