Hate to say it, but most US bikes float my boat, so Yeti 575 ,Turner 5 spot..Perhaps even Orange 5........maybe not.
Over on STW, there always seem to be a handful of 575s for sale at any one time. Overrated?

over on where..........whats that website address again.

Hold on aren't there a load of zaskars and stumpies for sale on RB. Don't make um bad.Just ........collectable :)
Yeah, but there's 20 years worth of Zakars out there. The 575's are new, and for sale.

as already mentined, the volume of higher quality bikes being produced now compared with the early 90's is massive BUT i doubt the quality of workmanship, components & materials are the same on (for example) a new marin compared with an early 90's version of the same named bike.

likewise with brands like spesh...... many moons ago they were desireable to the masses, now, they are catering to the bottom end of the half decent market and ruining the reputation of their top end stuff.

the example in question is my brothers bike, he bought a new hardrock sport a couple of years ago and it works, but it just isn't as good as i would have expected a spesh to be. for example, whats wrong with going for a matching groupset? its got tektro, shimano, sram and their own branded bits on there, it just looks sloppy and unloved straight out of the box and that will never make it desireable as the memory for me of the low to mid ranges now is a random frame with their name on it, crap forks, honest but nothing special wheels and from what i can tell, the cheapest cobbled together components they could find that week.

back in the early / mid 90's most bikes you saw, even the lower range bikes, had something that set them apart from their rivals in each price band, today you are essentially picking the colour scheme you want as most of todays bikes are probably built in the same place anyway.

Agree with kaiser . There will also be the downhill and jump stuff that the likes of us care little about .

they may be 'classic' (having some unique character/design/quality that makes them stand out above other contemporaries) but they won't ever be 'retro'. My personal opinion is that retro was a fixed point in time (approx '87-'98 give or take).

Of the mass produced bunch, Trek's attention to colour and detail with their hydro formed frames and colour-matched cables exudes class. On the design front the hardtail will still be retro king.
Wouldn't it be nice to imagine that with technology, materials and computing playing such a big part in design that the mountainbike's golden age is yet to come?

i notice you put several english names on there that are manufactured by huge chinese and and taiwanese companies.............????????????????????

Yes, they are desirable or have a fan base now, theres no reason to assume that will change. Singular, Cotic and Dialled don't seem to carry the usual stigma of far east manufacture and as many on one and ragley critic(s) there are they have many more ardent fans.............!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
