1" Steerer Issues, Marzocchi Forks

I'm not sure if this is the right forum to post this, if not could an Admin move it?

I've just got mu hands on a nice old Orange frame with just a few things needed to make into a really great retro bike. The main problem I'm having is finding a decent pair second hand forks (I'm on a pretty tight budget). There are a couple of Marzocchi Z2s on eBay atm that I'm looking at, they have bolt in steerers but they're all set up with 1 1/8" diameter. Does anyone know if I could use my current steerer in them or would it be too loose?

If anyone knows of any good places to look for these kinds of forks, or even if you have one for sale yourself, could you let me know, I'm having no luck with google!

Hi Boulton, you should find a pair on here without too much problem post in the wanted section a rough idea of what your after and see if you get any response. Its not the busiest section tbh but it can be helpful sometimes. I believe the steerer in bolted crown bombers is replacable and in fact new steerers can still be bought form marzocchi though I'd check on here or with the distributers.

Thanks, I'll make a post here.

My main question regarding the eBay forks is whether a pair of bolt-in forks that are currently fitted with a 1 1/8" steerer would work with my 1" steerer. Do you know if that would work or would it be too loose/unsafe?

I wouldn't like to say for sure as I haven't done it but IIRC a few have and hopefully they'll be along soon to help :) If you use the search as well you may find the answer. Try adding Marzocchi to your original post title using the edit button, might draw someones attention.

If your steerer is a 1" Bomber steerer/crown then that shouldn't be a problem.

If it a steerer for something else then probably not. What forks do you have at the moment.

Pictures :D

I currently have some fairly beaten up (the rebound is really, really slow) Z4 Alloys, looking to upgrade to some nice Z2s.

I've looked at the pics of the ones going on eBay and they seem to have the same mount style (i.e. two horizontal bolts) but the seller said it wouldn't work. I thought I'd get myself some expert advice, which is why I've ended up here =]

A marzocchi bomber takes a 1 1/8 steerer in the crown... but can fit 1" -

If you fit a 1" steerer, it uses a shim to fit (from marzocchi)

I have a set of bombers I sometimes run on my P7, originally purchased 1" but swapped out to 1 1/8 at tho mo on my GT.

Id stick with a maz steerer as the lip at the bottom fits the shim bit.

So does that basically mean that the 1" steerer in my current forks must have the shim converter thing fitted and so would work with any other Bomber 1 1/8" bolt-in forks?

Thanks for all the help guys.

the bomber crowns I have (x3) with bolt in steerers all take 1 1/8 in OR shim down to 1".

As for your fork - what is it? Does the steerer bolt in? Can it be removed?

Its a really safety critical part, so dont cut corners or botch your steerer!!!

Contact windwave (maz importers) and ask for a 1" steerer and crown shim for a set of bombers
