1" crown race fitting prob

I had this issue recently with new fork which had a 26.6mm crown race seat. Had to be milled and faced even though it was only 0.1mm too big.

Ok, its been confirmed that the crown requires facing/reaming from JIS (27.0mm) to ISO (26.4mm).

Ive exhausted my LBS's and cycle clubs, it looks like the only place local(ish) to me that has the right tools to face/ream a 1" fork is Chas Roberts in Croydon, but I cant get hold of them on the phone to be certain

Can anyone recommend a really good bike shop more local to Windsor/Twickenham/Heathrow area that may have the tools and expertise to do the job?

did you have difficulty finding someone to do this job too?

No I have all the tools to do this job. I have a small shop. You could always post me the forks and crown race.

Well less hassle perhaps but it may be more. First the new headset will have to be the same stack height as is current one or;

1)he will need to cut his forks,
2)the lock nut will not screw down rendering the headset useless.

The OP may have a quality ISO headset he wants to use.

Also new JIS headsets are of the cheap variety. The only JIS headset I can get are E.T.C and some no brand variety. I would fit them to a cheap BSO bike (but a BSO which requires a new headset is likely to be scrapped as there will be more wrong with it than that) but I would not necessarily recomend them as I do not know how they hold up long term.

So milling the crown race down opens up the options and these are running thin for 1" threaded headsets anyway, although FSA still make a decent one.

to throw a slight spanner in the works, its a 1" fork but threadless...
A rarer variety courtesy of mid-ninties Kona for you.

Its a long(ish) term build and im using a Chris King headset (1" threadless of course), along with a NOS 1" Syncros stem.
Once sorted the build should look sweet.
