Hi all ,
I just wanna put this out there , at the risk of having the p--- taken outa me .

Got a new project requiring a 1" fork . Been looking for a little while now but with no success , unless I have deep pockets . I don't .

Was wondering if any of the retro collective has has a steerer tube machined down from 1 1/8" to 1" . Obviously steel isn't a possibility , but how about an alloy one that was thicker ? Could it be done without the obvious potential for failure ?

Or am I the thick one ?

Thanks ,

Mike

Don't do it!

There's a reason alloy steerers are made of thicker material.

What forks are you looking at, might be that someone on here will have a 1" steerer for it.

The steerer or crown & steerer can be changed on a lot of forks.

It'd be easier and safer to get a new headtube welded/brazed/bonded on. Depending on how the frame is made.

Ideally I'd like a steel rigid , a Project Two or Orange F7 .
Obviously can't do owt with those , but maybe a Rock Shox Judy SL or something similar . There are lots of 1 1/8"s of 'em but the combined cost of one plus a 1"steerer and crown is more than I can afford . Maybe just wait 'til something does come up cheap enough .

F7s come up pretty regularly and go cheap (I just bought one off eBay for about fifteen quid) - don't lose faith, you'll find something!

If I find the inch, triple-butted P2 that I really need you can have my F7. I'm on a promise so you never know your luck...

Thinking about, there was an F7 on here just recently, not sure whether it sold...

Thanks , there was , threaded I think , and it was about 8mm too short   FFFFFccccccccuuuuuk ! I need 150mm to top of headset for threaded , or - technically - a bit more I think for A-head . I have 1" headsets in both . It shouldn't be that hard should it .
COME ON FOLKS , I'VE BOUGHT A MODERATORS BONTRAGER PRIVATEER FRAME !
We gotta give it some love
