Does anyone know where I can find a shim to make a 1 1/18 quill stem fit a 1 1/4 fork steerer?

I know I've seen them around but can't find one now I really need one!

I think you may find this would work... :?:

Stevo...Isn't that the steerer outside dimensions, rather than the internal/quill dimensions? Doesn't a shim need to be 28.6 OD, 25.4mm ID?

I have plenty of 0.058" wall 28.6mm (1 18"OD) alu tubing...pretty close at 25.6 mm internal.
I can cut the slot, so the wedge works..How long do you need? 100mm ish?
Yours for £3 incl post.

All the best,

...if he wanted to fit a 1" quill into a 1 1/8" steerer yes, but I do believe he wants to fit a 1 1/8" quill into a 1 1/4" steerer and whilst the link is to a seat post shim, the dimensions are close enough for it to work...

...or am I missing something? :?

am I missing something?
Yes, I think you are... it needs to be 1/8" smaller all round:

The inside diameter (ID) of his 1 1/4" (31.8mm) outside diameter (OD) steerer will be 1 1/8" (28.6mm). The ID of a 1 1/8" (28.6mm) OD steerer, for which the stem is made for, is 1" (25.4mm).
Therefore he needs something to bridge the 28.6mm ID of that fat steerer and the 25.4mm OD of the undersized stem quill to fit inside it.

If his stem quill was 28.6mm OD there wouldn't be a problem.
That seatpost shim is 1 1/4" (31.8mm) OD, 1 1/8" (28.6mm) ID, same dimensions as the fat steerer tube in question.

To summarise:

1 1/4" steerer tube = 1 1/4" (31.8mm) OD, 1 1/8" (28.6mm) ID & stem quill OD to fit
1 1/8" steerer tube = 1 1/8" (28.6mm) OD, 1" (25.4mm) ID & stem quill OD to fit
1" steerer tube = 1" (25.4mm) OD, 7/8" (22.2mm) ID & stem quill OD to fit

All the best,

The only other issue is that quill stem shims tend to be a tad longer than the average seatpost shim so you will need to ensure that it is longer than your quill otherwise the wedge will not tighten.

I know that this is the wrong size but sjs made some great shims for this purpose and they are about 150mm long.

I have one that is a 1" to 1 1/4" and its also 150mm long rather than the standard 90mm that seat shims tend to be
