Today's Ride

Been quite a few days of riding through the Jura in France and then across into Switzerland. My phone got soaked the other day and stopped working for a while. It seems to be recovering but now only charges very slowly, which is a stress.

Initially, I planned to ride to Geneva/Smugsville (which I did) then get the train to Andermatt and ride from there down the Rhine cycle route to Frankfurt to meet my wife who is at a conference there. But two things have happened - I am really missing my wife and I have really had enough of cycling along rivers. I still had the train and hotel booking near Andermatt so I got the beautiful mountain train from Brig to Andermatt last night anyway and cycled up the Oberalp pass (up 2000ft in 7 miles) for my dinner and bed. This morning I am going back down to meet some old friends - who are by coincidence in Andermatt - and we will ride the Furka pass before I catch a train to Frankfurt (and maybe do a bit more cycling there, or not).

It's never nice to be separated from Jo so I can sympathise. The only nights we've spent apart is because of hospital stays, not that many in 29 years thankfully.

Spring-like 14, felt like 13. A little damp in places. Light 3-6 mph N breeze. Constable clouds, with blue skies and some muted sunshine.

If you can see the Scilly's as clear as this it means only one thing... 🤣 🌧️

"Good legs" this morning, which was a nice surprise after an early evening turbo session. A solitary stop for the picture, back home pronto for brekkie and another day "in the factory".

First ride in a few weeks due to injury and bloomin one thing or another.
Found it tough going, had to stop a couple of times trying a different route. I did think I was fast on the DH and road sections until I got home and saw the data from my watch 🤣 I ride slow and am so unfit. Bloomin climbs

Warts and all

Yesterday's riding was spectacular. A chilly descent of the Oberalp, back down to Andermatt to meet two of my favourite cycling companions for breakfast and then the Furka Pass. It was only by chance that they happened to be in the area. A lovely start to the day!

Then the nine hour attempt to get to Frankfurt by train started. I couldn't get a bike reservation on an intercity train so had to travel by a series of regional stoppers. Oof. I gave up in the end and stopped in Karlsruhe for the night. Going to cycle up the Rhine today, hopefully reaching Mainz - and then a short train journey to dinner with Fiona tonight. ❤️

What is it about bikes and trains, as a young man I put my bike in the guards van and sat on the floor with it, this used to amuse the guards. Now unless it folds we are taking a chance.
I look at where and how you and your friends are cycling and realise I don't have the fitness requirements to do it. However this thread inspires, I now have a better idea where I'd like to be.
Enjoy dinner with Fiona.
