Today's Ride

Well you may laugh, but there's a grain of truth to this -- my younger stepson recently announced he was going for his motorbike licence and I was immediately worried for him. That's because my two best mates and I all had bikes in our 20s and did some really stupid things on them (mainly to do with alcohol). And two of us had crashes, one life-changing, due to the negligence of other road users. It's hard not to be a mother hen about it now, which I suppose is hypocritical.

Testing out the old Orbea Arama in preparation for a ride from Dieppe to Geneva next week, and then the Rhine cycle route from Andermatt to Rotterdam the following one.

Did 20 miles at17.8 mph on it this morning without getting out of breath. I've never really been able to explain how this relatively heavy, 20 year old bike is pretty much the fastest bike I own.

Needed to get some fish today from the market in Winchester so decided to show the M4 Stumpjumper a bit of sun. It was already mid 20s when I left the house so I decided a slow bimble through the water meadows was the way to go, a bit of shade from the trees being welcome.

First under the old railway bridge by Winchester's "Banksy".

Then along the shady cycle path into the city centre. IMG_3109.webp IMG_3111.webp

Over the river Itchen

Under Kingsgate arch through the old walls.

Round the back of the cathedral

Then bought a nice couple of Hake steaks for dinner and a dressed crab for lunch. And home via the front of the Cathedral
