Today's Ride

Quick jaunt this afternoon on the Salsa, having mucked about with the brakes and replaced the derailleur with a non-rapid-rise version last week.

It was a hasty ride, crammed in between work meetings, but the weather was lovely: cool, bright, dry. Noticed after a few km that the seatpost was slipping and had to stop to tighten it. When the position is right, this is a lovely bike to ride. Down in the 'Badlands' there was a mass of kangaroos -- at least 30 -- bounding through the long grass. I haven't seen that many here before and resolved to set up the GoPro before doing this route again.

Had a go at a couple of local Strava segments and managed a new PR on one and a second-best on the other. Took this to mean the bike is now is in top form.

And so home within an hour: 19.5km with 830-ish feet climbing.

Nice day again, just the right temp, a bit cloudy but dry still. The trails are so hardpacked and running really fast. Thankful for all the help I can get at moment.

Rode through the old mills and up into the woods, the valleys and woods round here are full of wild garlic from spring onwards, along with the bluebells, they bring added colour to the woods. Didnt really stop much, the trails were rolling fast so just kept speed up and kept going, which was a strange experience as I used to ride the loop the other way as it has a more downhill gradient, but barely noticed it today.

Lots of dog walkers out, all really nice and friendly, passed by a family of ebikers, left me in their dust, literally.

Great ride.

Sunday's ride - I don't seem to get out much these days. I'm blaming the GBS in 2023! Cycled over the moors, down to Tregeseal to watch the buggy race. I saw you were there @al-onestare but didn't see you! Then up to St Just, down Kenidjack valley and round the coast path back to home, via The Queens Arms in Botallack and The North Inn in Pendeen.

Around 4 hours, 3 beer stops, 1 packed lunch stop and 10 miles max. Perfect 😆

Still had a bit of spare time, and energy, after taking the dog for a walk this morning so went out for a quick ride.

Warming up again, warm breeze too so not much cooling even when moving. Normal short loop, only faster. No one really about which makes a nice change, especially down some of the trails which are starting to get overgrown, good to carry speed through it.

Sunny, bright, but cold today. These autumn days play havoc with one's cycling wardrobe -- I ended up with bib shorts, thermal vest, cycling jersey and neoprene toe covers. In the sunshine this was fine, but as soon as I moved into a shady area, the exposed arms and legs were chilly.

Even so, managed a nice, relatively speedy 40km on mixed surfaces with 1,400 feet climbing. Enjoying the Jake -- now the gears are sorted, it's proving to be a nice ride, especially up the hills and on loose gravel.
