About two months ago I rebuilt a 2001 Orange Kona Lava Dome and advertised it on Gumtree for £150. Unusually for these times I found a buyer almost immediately who offered the full price for the bike.
I met him at the station, a lovely guy who was absolutely blown away by the bike on which I had lavished my care and attention over the last few days. It looked great and rode very well. He said he would be interested if I got any more bikes like this. I said I would let him know.
About a month later a very similar Lava Dome came into my possession soI contacted him. He thanked me but said he did not have the cash so would not be able to buy the bike. I then put the bike on eBay with a price of £200, not expecting to get that and indeed someone made an offer for £150 that I gladly accepted.
Today I was browsing eBay, like you do, not intending to buy anything, when an Orange Kona Lava Dome grabs my attention at only £85 BIN, collection only,10 miles from me.
I study the photos carefully and it is indeed the very same bike I'd sold two months previously!
What would you do?

Surely if the original sale was via ebay, and the current sale is also on ebay then it's obvious if it's the same person? If not then as the others say might be worth checking to see if it's not been stolen.

I assume that you're interested as you'd be looking to flip it?

OK I have now bought it and it appears the current seller is a cash converters type business, so i can only assume the original buyer needed the cash and sold it, or it was stolen and the thieves sold it to the cash converters. I will make enquiries when I pick it up. Do you think I should contact the guy I originally sold the bike to, he might be a bit embarrassed if he had to sell it for a lot less than he paid? I do need to check it hasn't been stolen though.

If stolen will you loose £65?
Are you prepared to loose the monies?
If he indeed sold it to cash converters, he might be embarassed and lie to you about it been stolen?
If he did sell to get cash does he really want to spend more monies getting it back when he was tight for cash in the first place?
Unless you really want that bike back leave it...... TBF.
You could send him an email asking how life, hows the bike whistle........?
🤔

CC will refund if they were selling stolen goods, one way or another. If that was true. Either way, Ebay will allow you a refund if you find out it's stolen, and need to hand it over. No?
