Today's Ride

Third day of our retrobike tour and apart from my bottle cage there are no losses to lament.
View attachment 957639Today there were really great views and lots of great singletrack.

On the way to the car, we still got caught in a pretty heavy hailstorm, but that's what helmets are for...unfortunately they don't protect the hands..

It was not that far and not that high but mostly singletrails, some hiking and also carrying, all with a loaded bike

I'm hammered...the bikes only laugh
That looks like my kind of tour, beautiful. At our age a BnB at the end of the day though 😖 All of my bikes are far more capable than me.

Out this morning for the usual Sunday ride with Mrs Winjohn and friend. Did the "Farley Mount loop" which is a bit longer than the rides done so far this year and more up and down. Beautiful morning, fluffy white clouds and the countryside wearing its best early May attire.

The new red Audax home from her first proving run, just one dropped chain...forgot to check/adjust limit screw on front mech!

The stats, don't believe the "your best ever" nonsense and the time did include a walk round the car boot sale on the way back, where I picked up a couple of free bike pumps (one Blackburn)

Perspective is everything.. I'm just a working class lad from Sheffield ;)

( Shh! don't ruin my narative @Guinessisgoodforyou by telling him we live in the fancy part of town )

It was c-c-c-c-c cold this morning.. in fact, it was colder today than it was last night
I was born and grew up in the North of England. I often had to go and stay with my ex-merchant navy grandfather. The only heating in his house was one coal fire in the living room. He always described me as "nesh", and seemed convinced that I had in some way been spoiled by living in my parents' centrally heated house.

Ironically, my Sheffield side of the family all run their house and car at blast furnace temperature 🥵 not so soft Southerners 😁
The house I grew up in was single glazed and also only had a single coal fire in the living room, I liked to sit in the cold grate and eat the coal. No idea why, I think my parents got so pissed off with it they had a gas fire fitted when I was about 7.
They also put bolts on all the rooms so l could only access the hallway, apparently I created a lot of chaos. Jo seems to spend a lot of time rolling her eyes...or looking up asking "Why?"

Hilarious! We all need a patient partner.

I'd have taken coal over the absolutely disgusting Scouse (or boiled sheep brains for a treat) that seemed to simmer continuously on my grandfather's hob. That's what I think turned me into a lifelong vegetarian at 12 and vegan subsequently. Anyway, this is getting a bit monty python.

I didn't come here for an argument..
