Here is my butchered Al-mega XT I picked up recently. Needs a lot of work. May do a full respray. The rear cantilever cable manager that hangs off the seat clamp on these bikes…what is that specifically called? I need one.

Why a respray? It looks rather good, no? Ofcourse it's a personal thing but I prefer original paint (far) over a respray. I had a road bike resprayed a couple of years ago and it never felt right. It kinda lost its identity. But that's just me.

Honestly, I haven't looked at this bike in very good detail since I bought it. When I picked it up I had about two minutes to give it a look over, check the welds, make an offer pay then race home on a three hour drive to deal with personal stuff. I had a few minutes between the car and the bike rack to take a few low light camera phone pictures then put the bike on a rack and haven't looked since. Looking at the few pictures I have, maybe a respray is too over enthusiastic and unnecessary. Thanks for talking me out of it.

I need advice. I just bought this in november. I replaced tyres, seat, and I ordered a Syncros 1994 black seatpost. I have doubts about replaceing Stem/handlebar due to the cracks propension ( update, I just found a crack in the bolt are with handlebar) , and maybe the fork for a Manitou 3.
But I'm confused. The fork maybe is 50% of the soul of this bike, should I keep? For the Stem, I think in an ATAC or a Syncros Cathleprod. Any other idea that fits well? The rest is almost all original. I think that there are no cracks, but I see an slightly line in TT with ST welding. Strange place for a crack, isn't it?
I had a crack in 90's in Chainstay with ST, and I've seen in Head tube or BB. But there? I hope is only aesetics. But.... I need to ride a little to see if it grows......

Initially I wanted a black Syncros stem but I found a bargain NOS one. Idem with flite seat!
