Yes, it really seems to be a german thing. A certain bike-part being "Kult" may be compared to being tagged cool at the Cool wall. However, the word "Kult" carries much more: it may be the whole feeling of the time, that just condensated at certain bikes, parts, events, races, people etc...

That's a nice question! The german word "Kult" comes from the latin "cultus" (--> eng.: "cult", but also "culture") and has the usual meaning of a religious act involving religious/spiritual artefacts and places. However, its meaning (in german, don't know if in english, too) has been extended...
