Presumably, if the seller had been more active in researching the items they were selling, they would have put a reserve price on the auction.

By doing that the seller could not have been scammed in this way.

We would not have five pages on the rights of the individual, and a thread which certain members seem solely to be using as a platform.

In the end, if the seller hadn't been so lazy the situation would not have arisen.

It is the scammer's prerogative to take advantage of such sellers.

That is the reason why all auctions have the option to set up a reserve.

LloydsTSB have been asking for my account passwords so that their Nigerian head office can process the bonds that have recently matured in my name.

I won't be replying to the email because I am protecting myself and have done my own research.

Yet, we hate it when sellers start auctions at a high opening bid, or set a high reserve, and don't reveal it. So when a seller sells a cool, sought after part in a straight auction, we should hold that against him, and punish him with dishonesty; manipulating his auction; that'll teach him. All hail the scammer. That has got to be the dumbest post of this thread, and I'm not usually insulting, but come on, surely you can't believe the shit you just wrote, can you?

I'm not entirely sure why an auction with a reserve is no longer a 'straight' auction.

Unless your understanding of a 'reserve' differs from mine of course...

It's called using inference; you surely did not condemn the scammer's actions; rather, you praised his actions as advantageous, but you did deride the seller as lazy and ignorant. Silly me for thinking you were hailing one over the other.

Regarding your caravan comment, referencing my caravan story, it's misplaced. The caravan was created to extract reparations from a scammer, not for dealing with someone with a dissenting opinion. If you are going to use pieces of my post, I only ask you keep it in context. Thanks

Are you having difficulty keeping pace. The stuff quoted doesn't need to be reread, unless you don't know to what I'm referring. In that case, rereading might be time consuming, but necessary. No rush to respond to me; please take as much time as you need; forever would be nice.

Then some caravan expert would pop up and argue that the hubcaps were not period specific, only to have another chime in with the top ten caravan's used for going to beat people up in a film were.......
Course an American would put forth US options of caravans and a French man would chime in that they invented the caravan. etc etc.
The play almost writes itself.

If it is really going on it is a US Federal crime to do this at auction.

People have been prosecuted for this. Maybe not on EBay but it is a crime and should be reported.
