I have always liked this photo:
A photo of a photo but still reasonably clear! My brother at the end of a race. I think we can agree that he left nothing out on the course.
Late 80s or early 90s I say. I think he had a black Stumpjumper. The race would be somewhere in South Devon.
It isn’t too difficult. I followed this guy’s video.
I think it was him. I remember fingerless gloves. Grease bungs up the pawls. I used old style diff oil. I even managed to replace a pawl spring. They are fascinating things.
Give the rims a good prod with something metal. That’ll...
I grew up in Devon. It is a wonderful place. I did Ten Tors in 1986 maybe? The very hot year with people dropping out his heat related illness. Did a lot of hiking and biking up there.
Your thread has made me remember. Cheers.
This was on the Devon Coast to Coast ride who knows how long ago?
We started in Torquay and headed north over the Moors. That’s my Alan on the ground sans back wheel. A friend (a very good Expert/Elite racer BiTD) is repairing about the 5th puncture of the trip. It turned out to be the...
I visited my parents at the weekend. Whilst looking at an old fashioned photo album, I found a few photos of things form way back! Here are my two classics, both now gone photographed together for the only time I think.
A photo of a photo. The Triumph is a Mk 1 Vitesse with one of the last...
I keep considering buying a new Fairlight Faran. Then I see something like this and wonder if it would be any better than the retro offering.
That and the obsession with fitting the maximum tyre size. Would 32 (the widest I would consider) look silly on the Faran. That and me not liking the...
I had one of those! Way too big for me. I’d still need to be growing now to be anywhere close to “growing into it!”
The first one shown above is the size I should have had.
I’m looking forwards to trying mine. I like the Profile bar extensions. Plenty of alternative hand positions including road style tri bars position for a headwind. I haven’t ever tried wide bars as I like the 510mm these offer.
The Time pedals offer more float to my knees and all my cranks...
Amazing how an old bike evolves through time. Mine is the same. Started off as my mountain bike and quickly became my race bike too. As I became a road biker it evolved into my shopping and touring bike until we hit this evolution:
Now it has fat tyres back on it after a bit of the rough...
The lovely weather this weekend even overcame the sloth I have been suffering from since the 27th December. With my do it all mountain bike still clad with fat tyres, it was the road bike I grabbed from the garage. Pumping up the tyres, I tried not to notice the couple of small slits in them...
Yes, agree with everything. I went from very cheap Michelins to Pros and was very surprised that not only could I detect the difference but how big a difference there was.
