Ofmega Sintesi Pedals refurb pics

Here are some pics of my newly purchased Ofmega Sintesi pedals.
I checked Velobase to check when these were made and if they where re buildable.
They were made mid eighties onwards so period for my Road Ace 12.

There is an Allen key grub screwed into the end cap, screw this in and the cap pops off




15mm and 11mm spanner to undo the axle lock nut


Axle out and all dismantled, clean up time! I used a deep socket to remove the bearing cone, I removed the leather strap to keep it clean.



Axle and cone cleaned and will go again.

Loose ball bearings are all fine too


I will add a few more pics reassembling.

Inner ball race all clean both sides.



TF2 waterproof grease, always use this - use it on my motorcycles too



Ball bearing into the inner race, grease the race first!



Some grease on the axle, don't over do it.



Axle back in correct side, dismantle one pedal at a time.




Cone, pegged washer and locknut ready to go back on.



using a deep socket to seat the cone.



Pegged washer next.



Locknut in place with 11mm spanner, take care tightening you may need to back off the cone.



All done with end cap back on.


Check axles are running free, check for no loose bearings.
The other pedal had one race rusty, cleaned it all up with scotchbrite, cleaned cone and ball bearings, went back together fine.

Interesting looking pedals. I've never seen those before. It looks like the pedal body is that carbon plastic that they used in the 80's? If so that probably makes them really light.

I loved that type of pedal design. Both Campy and Shimano had similar designs. The Dura Ace ones are some of my favorite ones. They are easy to rebuild with ball and needle bearings. And they had a neat proprietary cleat that is great for track racing.

They are very light, yes they have a plastic type body, would be nice with Titanium axles.
They are from eighties yes, they have survived well.

Ofmega did other “plastic” components, the Mistral rear mech is the one that springs to mind, mainly as they did a pink one .

You're right. I believe they had other colors too. I've never seen the Mistral derailleur in the wild. I've only seen them on the Disraeli Gears website.

have read reports from owners on other forums that they found them to be problematic/unreliable

full name of manufacturer is -
Officina Meccanica Galvanotecnica

began an unfortunate suggestion to Joel at Blackbirds about forty year back that the OFMEGA name might be a successor entity to OFficine MEccanica GiostrA, the makers of Magistroni products

Giostra ceased play in 1965, right after the launch of the Super Zenith products

whilst OFMEGA seemed to launch in 1966

the Sintesi pedal was a member of the Mistral road ensemble -



one downside of OFMEGA products reported by many owners is the difficulty of locating small repair parts

I like the Mistral set, a bit too expensive for now.
The offset chainset is a work of art, have I described that correctly?
I may start collecting the parts to build a set up over the next year
I was a bit dubious about the rear mech being plastic - has a good write up on DG'S site.
The mech comes in Blue also although the black version looks great.

Going for a ride on the Road Ace 12 now - no brakes maybe tricky though
