Suntour Cassette conundrum

I've managed to pick up a NOS 8 speed AP cassette recently, but it wasn't exactly cheap, and I was wondering if there are alternatives available, and what they are?

E.g. I've seen SR Suntour Powerflo cassettes listed as NOS and wondered if they might be suitable, or are they just trading on the name, post buyout?

Can anyone offer any advice on this?

Original suntour hub? No alternative cassettes about these days. Can't even remember if there were alternative cassettes back then either. And this is a then that is now a very long time ago

Saw both of those and thought they looked a bit Shimano-y, which prompted my question. I've read the manual that came with it, and it seems the cassettes are specific and not interchangeable, or am I mistaken?

What do people do then, fit a shimano freehub on the Suntour hub? Or am I wasting my time with this escapade?

The only option is to use the specific cassette to the freehub body, there is no Shimano compatible freehub that will work with the hub. If your freehub has an externally threaded end then its Suntour cassettes all the way, I don’t know of any aftermarket cassettes that fit the system either, sorry.

Oh dear. So, being a bit obvious and very late to the party, it now makes sense that Suntour was Betamax to Shimano's VHS, and why it all went wrong for them

Are the chains specific too?
