Olympus? 1970's/80's road bikes.

80's throwback

Retro Newbie
Hi everyone.
As a kid in the late 70's early 80's I used to visit my local bike shop Daycocks in Roman Road, Bow London. They sold new racer bikes that were branded Olympus or Olympic or similar and had the five rings logo. They were not high end, but as a kid I lusted after one. A few years ago I saw one listed on Ebay. It was cheap/tatty and not my size, but I got that same feeling as I did as a kid.
Does anyone know anything about this brand?
I know Raleigh sold anOlympus model in red and blue but I'm sure this was not the same bike.
I ended up with a Peugeot in copper colour from Covent Garden cycles which had Mafac centre pulls! Felt like a pro on that!

There was the Fuji or Nishiki Olympic; not sure what the livery was though.

My first thought was Olmo (they made every type of bike from roadsters to top racers). Close in spelling, and use of Olympic rings front and center. Unfortunately, the "O-rings" are fairly conmon on bikes made around the world; nor did Olmos seem to travel very far (at least not to the US)

I think I remember them in Halfords at a time when Halfords stocked several brands including Raleigh, Carlton and Kalkhoff

👍

had one of these

she were a deep blue flambouyant

purchased as bare frame at local tip

never got to build her up as when checked serial with law enforcement there was a "hit" on her indicating she had been "taken without consent" so had to turn her in

officer reported owner said they wanted to build her back up

so turned out well, one thermally aggrandised iron returned to its proper home 😊
