Dawes Galaxy Tour - £20 (54cm) seized seatpost in Manchester

It's a funny thing the www, on minute one is looking for info on a Raleigh Equipe which I saw on FB, then ends up seeing a 'Related Post' at the bottom of another thread on here and 2 hours later this bike is at my house.

So I thought a thanks was in order and some pics as the FB Ad only had one, it does indeed need a Bottom Bracket as well as the seat post being jammed but for now, the seat doesn't need moving, so will look at that later, it feels solid even in its current state and will be given enough TLC for now to get back on the road until I decide if my budget can stretch to 'updating anything' although I like original sometimes that's not always doable.

Anyway I'll probably stick around for some more advice regardings parts and any more info on its current condition is welcome and appreciated or would it be better to post a new thread asking?

I would suggest you can search the forums in the first instance as these are exceedingly popular frames and I imagine you will gain a lot of information that way. This should help for parts and also catalogue scans for identifying year and parts if wanted. There might even be overwhelming information to the point it’s difficult to decide what’s relevant and what’s not 😉 but you will learn about the main points on the bike to help identify snd communicate the info across too

Please do feel free to make a new post though - turn it into a build log as you go and keep us all updated and how you get on. These are fantastic frames which are well worth saving/restoring/using. Especially considering the parts on here look somewhat modern in the grand scheme of things 🤙👍

I would have collected this one myself but didn’t want to make the donor wait another 2 weeks for that to happen!

Thanks for the info, it's been a while since I rode on a regular basis, stopped when I was 36, some 29 yrs ago, I do own an MTB, a Hardtail and a Road Bike with Flat Bars which is a little too big for me! But don't use them on a regular basis as felt something wasn't right, this already feels right.

As my recent new exercise regime involves walking nightly and testing Photo gear I've been looking for a new way to get around as want to cut the driving down and this fits the bill perfectly and of course the first job is to fit/fix the BB, I'll put together a new thread as you suggest as because of its popularity there is a lot of information to digest, as you also say.

Will be back in a couple of days, many thanks.

Forgot to add, clean it as well....The owner was a really nice guy who had it years but him and his wife bought new so was just sat in the hallway, he was happy to know it will be put back on the road and I said I'll update him when it is.

@Leon C
These frames are certainly good to get you back into it. The one I had just recently took up to 38mm tyres with space for fenders so it pretty much was an all road touring setup that could do anything I needed it to plus a bit more.

See if there’s a bike co-op local to you if you’re in need of a pannier rack to carry your equipment. Should be a decent price and will support a good cause too.

It’s always nice to update the original owner on what you change on a bike - I try to send photos and always ask recipients of whatever I’ve sold to send some too

That would be nice, I've had people send me photos of bikes they've built from frames I sold and it's great to see them back in use.
