Help me choose the right brakes for my Dawes Galaxy.

Cheers all. I’ve put the originals back on. Regarding the small shimano hangers (below)…which way should they face?

You need to look closely at the pinch bolt.
The cable hole needs to align with the plate face.

The shimano diagram shows their own hangers are designed for top style.

I think we are in agreement that the name should face outwards from the frame. The hanger that was on the bike nearest to hand unfortunately happened to have Weinmann rather than a Shimano hanger and the bolt on that would appear to work the other way around to the Shimano set up. (I think...although I am happy to be proved wrong.)

Set the rear up like this
