Preferably water slide or the direct transfer type, as opposed to vinyl backed.

Searched online but most seem to charge quite a lot for the initial run on the assumption you want to bulk buy in the 1000's. Or they only do large sizes, looking for something about 1'' x 2''.

If anyone knows where I might get that sorted please let me know 👍

buy the transfer paper and make it yourself.

Laser printers even better. Print on a bit of cereal packet (backwards), then iron it on to what ever you want.
It's to go on a bike frame. I ordered some of the proper paper so I'll do the waterslide method.

It'll be going on top of the clearcoat, any tips for preserving them? Maybe using some kind of fixative instead of water to apply?

Only way is another clear coat. You'll only have to do the bit with the decal though.

- Prepare the frame properly (clean + primer)
- Sand again (!) with for example 800 grit (!) Dont leave out that step (!) and clean with silicone remover and dust collecting wipes from the paint shop.
- Apply your color base coat! Fairly thin is enough. If its blue, its blue! It wont get "bluer" the more you apply. It will only get messy!
- Make your (own) waterslide decals
- Fixate the waterslide decals (!!!) there is a special spray for that. Dont (!) leave out that step!
- Apply the waterslide decals carefully (it takes practise!)
- Finish the frame with 2 proper thin layers of clear coat
- Wet sand your result with 5.000 grit sandpaper
- Polish your frame properly!
- Done!

Your worst enemy will be the oversprays and aerosoles in the air if you dont have a proper room-suction during painting.

Youre welcome
