should bike shops continue selling bikes?

Yes I’m aware of all the workings.

But my point was that the employee is the one who has the deduction of 20% tax and their NI assuming they are above the thresholds. So this doesn’t affect the business apart from being the one to actually administer it if PAYE.

The Vat can be offset as you say. Remember it’s not you paying it , you simply collect it on behalf from the customer 😉

So it’s really only the NI increase that’s new.

Oh and don’t forget the corporation is now 25% ….. and dividends allowance is evaporating…..

What’s the hourly charge out rate now for a bike shop?

If I get to pay corporation tax,
I'm laughing🤣

Realistically you can describe the raising of revenue by the state in a variety of ways, but basically, all our income comes out of customer's pockets, at our request.

Over the year, the business pays almost a third of that money to hmrc.
(I can pull up payments to hmrc from the bank account, and compare to overall income)

Components cost 2/3 of retail ex vat.

So we get to keep the rest😉

Some shops have character that you just cannot put a price on......

Meharg's Garage in Ballyboley, outside Ballyclare.

There was a shop somewhat like the one above next to a bakery in Occidental. CA. Owned buy a couple of spoon boys and very clicky. This was in the mid-90’s.
