Any idea’s what this is?

Haha, yes, it is the long awaited 'New Shed' that I have been talking about for a year or so. Finally arrived, and I built it over the last two weekends.

I sat in one corner with a cup of coffee looking at this 'unknown bike' this evening. This is the emptiest it will ever be.

(I can't actually get in my old shed without taking something out)

Enjoy the space even if it is only going to be short lived before some of the bike migrate across!

You know you’re in trouble when you can’t even get into a shed/garage without moving something! 😳😱😬

I’m saying mid or early 30s going on the angles. Looks like a BSA rear brake and a Resilion front. Could well be a BSA, either a Sports or a Gold Vase. The early BSA catalogues are easy enough to find and they clearly show the frame angles changing year on year, the fork shape options and fork crown which will tell you for sure if it’s a BSA or not.

Thank you, I will check these out and see if I can get a match!

Here’s a link to the 1936 catalogue: https://oldbike.wordpress.com/1936-bsa-catalogue/

See the slight differences between the type of fork and levels of chrome on the Gold Medal, Clubman and Opperman Special models. If yours is a BSA it’ll be these details which tie down the model. Also I don’t think it’s a Sports or Gold Vase because they were the models which came with Lauterwasser bars.

1938 catalogue shows they didn’t change much: https://oldbike.wordpress.com/1938-bsa-catalogue/

But I think whatever yours is it’s earlier than these catalogues because of the frame angles and the gallows type seat post.

Yes, no chrome on mine, or at least not now. although looking closely I don't think there ever was. I do think that are a lot of similarities with the BSA bikes of the early 30's, but as you say, I can't find an exact match for the head tube lugs and fork crown, not yet anyway 😄

My working assumption is that is perhaps very late 20's, more likely early 30's.

It was originally black, but it has been repainted green at some point ( badly, by someone using a cleaning brush, it looks like 😄 ) and then all of this has been rubbed off in places. So I am going to repaint this one as there is nothing really of the original finish to preserve.

I do think a BSA model is a strong chance, but also BSA Pattern parts were used widely by other frame builders which it has, and the unusual lugs make me think it could also have been a small fame builder.

Maybe, I'll get a clue when I take the paint off.
