The British bike thread

I took the quadra out for longish spin yesterday. I wimped out on the 12-21 cassette and fitted my 14-28. Dropped the chainrings to 48/38 and swapped the saddle out as it was looking a bit tired.

The bike feels quite aggressive compared to my usual summer ride - a Mercian Strada. The stem has a slight drop and those bars.....they're like track bars. On the hoods it feels like a TT cockpit and in the drops....feels like your hands are somewhere down by the front hub. The upside is it's a demon descender in the drops. I wanted to keep the bike in original spec but if I intend to ride it again I'd be swapping out bars and stem.

The front forks are quite flexy and the rear triangle is stiff as f**k for a near 40yo steel off the shelf bike, it makes for an interesting riding experience. I was running 25s (it will take 28s), the v section weinmann anodised rims are flipping gorgeous to look down at when riding...but probably add the the harshish riding experience.

It's a story of marginal pains. I feel really beat up today after 45 miles on this thing. It's fast as but the soft tissue gets flung about from every undulation encountered. I'm a soft 54 year old clearly, my Mercian is like an armchair in comparison.
