Omg I forgot about the exact same problem I had and the odd set up - I settled for the Shimano compromise but clearly with your level of pain tolerance and perseverance I’m expecting a brilliant if left field solution from yah!
It depends on how Anal I want to be...I can get a later High clamp Sram derailleur from the early 2000's but that's not really in the spirit of the game is it😆 May have to settle on that for the York show but there must me a high clamp 9.0 out there somewhere

Ok, next problem to address is the Rhino Tec rear wheel. Despite being 26" MTB specific wheels it has a 130mm Dura Ace rear hub. Initially tried a little adapter to make it 135mm

But as it is only on one side the wheel spacing in the rear triangle was all to cock. Therefore bought a 135mm rear QR axle

Then stripped the cones off the existing axle

And by swapping out the existing washers for the lock bolts on the new axle, managed to get the perfect spacing...

So pretty happy

Love the neon stuff. Wasn't ESP 9.0 in the era that SRAM sucked at making front derailleurs and just left it to Shimano? I remember a lot of my friends running Shimano fronts on their bikes. No shame in that :)

Or Sachs, like Kona specced on ther bikes around that time.

Can't you mount a Sram mech to a bb plate somehow?

I've got a Sram Gen X derailleur for the moment which is about 2000. The Sram 9.0 only seems to be in low mount like the Sachs Centera ( all the same stuff really). Shimano front mechs just don't look right so may have to think out of the box to get a year correct solution
