I had a go on one at Mick Ives cycles in the 80s, it flexed every which way. Absolutely fecking awful.

firstly, why are the tyres so bloody thin? and why in gods name would anyone want to ride on it?

Probably promoted as "it'll never rust". It feels like the result of one of those trends like in the 70s, let's make an electric version of everything.
